Catabasis, or the descent to hell trope, was the title of my DNSEP project, focused on giving shape Pyramid.ink's mythology. After a year dedicated to graphic researches, a narrative developped and deployed in a book through writing and illustration.
This story was influenced by several versions of the journey to the underworld, such as the ones of Orpheus, Ishtar, and Izanagi. It was worked on in workshops attended by boarders of the Lycée Louis Vincent (Metz), who could vote for developments of core ideas. The book prototype was then selected by a students/teachers comittee of the Ésal Metz to be published. The process included reworking some passages, allowing people to think the layout anew, and the making of brand new illustrations.
7 arbres is a tale book, the first in the series of the larger Contes des Voyageurs project
The project evoke old folk tales and focuses on an Eastern boy travelling an empty world westward in order to see the forest. In his adventures, he will be accompanied by his cow friend, meet other travelers, and surnatural beings. The focus of this tale is about following dreams and the idea of nature.
The Contes des Voyageurs project is build around a metanarrative about a princess spirited away at the Unseelie Court. The whole project is build around a visual research focusing on a dialogue between block printing and writing. The project was started following Terre-Histoires, a residency project I realized in the Ardennes territory, which is rich with tales and folk stories.
